shopping in the sun

The long days of winter that dragged on and on seem like a distant memory. The sun’s out, the BBQs have been lit and the shorts and t-shirts have been pulled out from the dusty corners they’ve been buried in for months.

This upbeat trend has also been reflected within retail. According to new figures released by the British Retail Consortium (BRC), retail sales have risen by 2.9% in the year to June and like-for-like sales were up 1.4%. This growth is being led by non-food retail which experienced low sales through the long winter months. In particular fashion sales have increased in June, largely due to the change in weather. Food sales have also increased but generally in line with inflation. Although there may be an increase in BBQ food sales considering the lovely weather.

Have you noticed a change in consumer spending in the last month or so? Let us know how your retail store has been doing?
